Prices
Price increases have flattened out due to the world market reacting to the uncertainty caused by the Japanese disaster and the unrest in North Africa and the Middle East. Costs of making steel have reduced slightly as the spot prices influencing scrap, iron ore and other commodities come under pressure. Our general view is that this is a short term readjustment and that prices will resume their upward trend by June. In the UK, April is a short month and most producers will try to weather this trend so, although there my be some competitive offers about, prices will not change significantly.
Supply
Although there are a few shortages, supply is generally in balance.
Demand
March (23 days) has been a good month for both Tomrods and All Steels and, although April (18 days) is a short working day month, we are hoping this trend will continue.
