Tomrods is Moving to Thirsk

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers.

Why are Tomrods Moving?

Firstly to improve efficiency and cut costs. We currently have two warehouses 20 miles apart and we have to load most wagons out of both warehouses on a daily basis. This will no longer be necessary. Secondly the site we have bought covers 9 acres and provides us with over 80,000 sq ft of covered warehousing space against our current level of 50,000 sq ft. We can store more steel under cover and we have plenty of room to expand into as and when we need to.

How will local customers be affected?

They will benefit from the move. Quicker loading times will mean earlier deliveries and although we are 20 miles away it is only 20 minutes via the A1 and a quicker turn around will make up for any extra time on the road. Also they can take advantage of our daily delivery service provided by our 7.5t capacity wagon.

When will Tomrods be moving?

We anticipate that we will be ready to move in September this year. We have a lot of works to complete prior to the transfer, namely putting a dual track through the middle of the existing warehouses, concreting roads and converting the offices to our requirements. These improvements will take about 8 weeks to complete.

Will all the existing staff be moving to Thirsk?
All existing members of staff bar one will be moving with us to Thirsk, so we will continue seamlessly to offer our excellent service to all customers.

Will the move disrupt daily deliveries?

No, the move will be taking place outside normal business hours and we will continue to deliver daily to our customers.

Cutting and Drilling

We have bought, in addition to the 9 acre site, all the plant and equipment of the previous occupier. This includes a Peddinghaus cut and drill line capable of processing 5,000 tonnes of structural steel per annum. We will be looking to add this service to our portfolio during Q 4 2010.

How did Tomrods fund this move?

We have been looking for a suitable site for many years and we have always had a strong balance sheet so that we could take advantage of the opportunity when it arrived. The current economic climate has created more available properties and despite banks being very reluctant to lend we have selected HSBC as our partner out of a possible 4. You could say we have turned the recession into an opportunity.

We hope the above gives you an insight into the move and if you have any further questions please give us a call. Otherwise we look forward to welcoming you to our new home.
